Advocate Joanna Jonas first came into the spotlight when she sued and won against the Lesotho National Broadcasting Service for playing a clip in which a man was describing young girls as ripe. The clip in question was justifying rape and incest by blaming women for going to work and leaving men with daughters that were said to be “ripe”
She is an advocate of the High Court of Lesotho and holds a bachelors degree in law from the National University of Lesotho. In her 7 years experience as a legal practitioner Advocate Jonas has devoted herself to the support of women’s human rights. Her passion and support for law and gender advocacy inspired her to co found Nairasha Legal Support. Nairasha Legal Support is the first of its kind social legal enterprise. A non profit company that offers assistance to victims of gender based violence, offers legal support to marginalized groups as well as female entrepreneurs on a pro bono basis.
